Signal is an end-to-end encrypted messaging app.
Sealed Sender
Since it’s a centralized service, Signal has access to all the metadata. While not as bad as having access to message content, metadata still tells a lot about your communications.
To improve this point, Signal has a feature called Sealed Sender.
You can check out the options related to this by going to Settings -> Privacy -> Advanced. For me, the Sealed Sender section is at the bottom of the settings screen.
Downsides
- Removed SMS support because they don’t have enough developer time, but still have enough time to integrate Giphy GIFs or sketchy cryptocurrencies
- Legally threaten open-source repositories that shipped Signal apps
